National Gold Medal of Excellence with the Royal Conservatory of Music Winners

It is with great pride and excitement that Encore Music Academy and Recording Studios announces that Sunehri Verma, age 16, of Franklin, who is a voice and piano student of Lisa Ostrow, has won the National Gold Medal of Excellence with the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program for Level 7 Voice for the 2023-2024 academic year! To achieve this, Sunehri attained the single highest score for her level of voice in the entire country during academic year 2023-2024 and, as a result, will perform at Carnegie Hall at the US National Celebration of Excellence this coming January, where she will be presented with her gold medal. This will be Sunehri’s third appearance at Carnegie Hall.

Three Encore students have been awarded Regional Gold Medals of Excellence for academic year 2023-2024 with the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program. These students attained the single highest score for their level of voice in the region, which includes the following states: MA, RI, CT, ME, VT, NH, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, and WV.

Ananya Sharma, student of Lisa Ostrow, age 11 of Franklin, Level 1 Voice

In addition, we would like to extend special congratulations to the following students for having achieved the highest score in Massachusetts for academic year 2023-2024 on their instrument or voice:

AJ Trull, student of Rebecca Abalutzk, age 16 of Franklin, Level 4 Voice

As a result of their tremendous achievements, our Regional Gold Medal winners will be performing at the annual Northeast Celebration of Excellence in New York City in January, 2025.

Congratulations to Encore Student, Ava Piercy

We are proud to announce that our student, Ava Piercy, a senior at Franklin High School, is now the Principle Chair Clarinetist for the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra. Ava has been a member of the WYSO for the past two years where she’s played both the Clarinet and Bass Clarinet. This summer Ava and the WYSO will embark on their tour of Central Europe.

Royal Conservatory of Music Assessment Results Are In! 

Another round of RCM assessments has come and gone! At Encore Music Academy and Recording Studios, students of all ages and musical abilities come throughout the year to perform their exams in front of adjudicators who travel from all across Canada and the U.S. in order to administer the assessments. 

In addition to academic assessments in music theory, harmony, analysis and history, students perform practical assessments on their instrument of choice. Instruments represented include piano, voice, classical guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, drums, violin, and viola. In August, students from all over the northeast traveled to Encore to take their assessments. 

The Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program provides a recognized national standard of success in music study from beginner to advanced levels. It inspires excellence through individual student assessments that are central to the program, while also supporting teachers with high-quality and innovative resources. The RCM allows students to measure and celebrate accomplishment and track their progress throughout the country. All students and teachers across the United States are invited to participate, and Encore Music Academy is proud to offer these opportunities at the school and through outreach to the surrounding communities.

Levels of achievement are determined by the following scale:

  • First Class Honors with Distinction: An assessment score of 90 to 100.
  • First Class Honors: An assessment score of 80 to 89.
  • Honors: An assessment score of 70 to 79.
  • Pass: An assessment score of 60 to 69.

Students are graded on proficiency in the following areas: performance; technical requirements; aural skills; rhythm; and, sight-reading ability. This year, Encore is very proud to recognize the following Encore students for their outstanding achievement in Royal Conservatory of Music assessments:

Prestigious Honor for Encore Faculty Member!!

Liudmila Geyer, a distinguished piano educator based in Bellingham, has been honored with the prestigious Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award for 2023. Liudmilla also teaches at the Encore Music Academy in Franklin and privately at the Steinert Piano Academy in Newton. 

The Steinway Top Teacher Award is a formal recognition by Steinway & Sons that commends a music educator’s passion, artistry, and dedication to students. This annual award is given to piano teachers for outstanding instruction and leadership in music education, and for demonstrating an unceasing commitment to their students, helping them fulfill their highest potential as musicians and pianists. To be eligible for the Steinway and Sons Top Teacher Award Program, music teachers must teach acoustic piano in an exemplary fashion.

Mrs. Geyer was nominated for the award by M. Steinert & Sons of Newton, MA, the world’s oldest independent Steinway & Sons piano dealer. Brendan Murphy, President of M. Encore Students to Receive Regional Gold Medals in New York City

Encore Music Academy and Recording Studios, located in Franklin, MA, is proud to announce that two students have been awarded Regional Gold Medals of Excellence for academic year 2022-2023 from the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program. To achieve this award, students must have attained the single highest score for their level on their instrument in the region which includes the following states: MA, RI, CT, ME, VT, NH, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, and WV. 

Congratulations to the following students and their instructors for the talent, hard work, dedication, and perseverance it takes to achieve such a tremendous honor:
